On August 24, IHG Hotels & Resorts announced that it would carry out a large-scale rebranding of 14 hotels in Kyoto.
This move strengthens the partnership with GCP Hospitality and covers 14 properties with a total of 1,063 rooms. The breakdown includes 12 “Garner Hotels,” one “Holiday Inn Express,” and one unbranded hotel. Over the next 12 months, each hotel will be renovated and reopened sequentially to reflect the distinct characteristics of their respective brands.
In particular, “Garner” is an IHG mid-scale brand launched in August 2023, which has opened 100 properties in about three years. This agreement includes the “Holiday Inn Express Osaka City Center Midosuji” (4-1-12 Kitakyuhoji-cho, Chuo-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture), the “Holiday Inn Express Osaka City Center Midosuji” (4-1-12 Kita-Kyūhōji-chō, Chūō-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture), and the “Holiday Inn Express Sapporo Susukino” (6-14-1 Minami 5-jō Nishi, Chūō-ku, Sapporo City, Hokkaido)—marking the third “Holiday Inn Express” property in Japan. The hotels in question are located in major areas of the city, such as Kyoto Station, Shijo, and Gojo, and are said to offer excellent access to tourist attractions.
