Zenrin has released a complete set of 50 “47 Prefectures Hinoki Magnets,” made from domestically sourced natural hinoki cypress, from its map-themed stationery and goods brand “Map Design GALLERY” through its online store. Each magnet is priced at 1,210 yen.
These wooden magnets faithfully reproduce coastlines and terrain contours at a scale of 1:2.3 million using the company’s proprietary map data. Building on the initial lineup of 7 prefectures in Kyushu—which had previously been available exclusively in stores—the company has added 40 new prefectures. Additionally, the vast region of Hokkaido has been divided into four areas—Eastern, Northern, Central, and Southern Hokkaido—to complete a lineup of 50 varieties that covers the entire country.
Adjacent prefectures can be seamlessly connected to one another, and the design allows you to experience the joy of assembling the entire Japanese archipelago by collecting them all.
The surface, with its gentle cypress texture, features meticulously engraved municipal boundaries, major train stations, and compass directions, while airports are represented by airplane motifs. The product is made from domestically sourced cypress and neodymium magnets, and is manufactured entirely in Japan.
