Tokyo Disneyland has decided to name the new Space Mountain, set to open in 2027, “Space Mountain: Earthrise,” and unveiled the logo design for the first time. With the opening of the attraction, the surrounding plaza will be renamed “Tomorrowland Plaza.”
Space Mountain: Earthrise, an iconic attraction in Tomorrowland that has been beloved since the park’s opening, has been completely revamped—from the building to the ride system—while retaining its indoor roller coaster format.
The attraction begins with an experience in which the ride, carrying guests, launches vigorously from Earth and soars into space.
On the technical side, this ride features the first-ever onboard audio system installed on a roller coaster at Tokyo Disney Resort. With a new space-themed story and special light and sound effects that depict various celestial phenomena, it offers a dynamic and immersive space experience unlike anything seen before.
The attraction’s exterior design incorporates the movements of celestial bodies and the curves of trees and flowers to express a connection with nature.
The term “Earthrise” used in the name refers to the sight of the Earth rising from the edge of the Moon, much like the Sun rising above the horizon when viewed from space.
Although Space Mountain can be enjoyed at Disney theme parks overseas, the new theme—which “expresses the beauty and preciousness of Earth, a one-of-a-kind existence in the universe”—is exclusive to Japan.
Tomorrowland is currently undergoing a complete renovation of its surrounding area with a total investment of 100 billion yen. With the opening of the new Space Mountain, the central plaza will be renamed “Tomorrowland Plaza.”
Based on the concept of harmony between humanity and nature, the site features monuments inspired by the elements that make up nature—such as fire, water, earth, and wood—as well as the light of celestial bodies like the sun and moon.
At night, the venue uses light and sound effects to transport guests into a world filled with hope, dreams, and wonder.
“Element Express,” a counter-service food outlet, has opened in the plaza. It offers a menu designed for people taking a break in the plaza.
