The seventh installment of the Suica Penguin Bento, produced by Orange Page, is here! Following the sixth installment released last summer, this is another collaboration with the long-running favorite “Chicken Bento.” While the previous version featured curry pilaf, this one features tomato-flavored rice, making it closer in taste to the original Chicken Bento.
The tomato-flavored rice is topped with scrambled eggs and two sheets of nori featuring the Suica penguin. Apparently, there are four different designs for this nori, and the fact that you can’t see them all in just one serving adds a delightful touch of whimsy.
For the side dishes, there are two pieces of the familiar fried chicken. Then there’s a trio of fried foods: fried whitefish and seaweed-coated fish sausage—which is supposedly the Suica penguin’s favorite. Add in some yakisoba, and you’ve got a completely brown bento.
The included chopsticks are disposable chopsticks in a bag featuring a picture of a chicken bento, and plastic chopsticks with the Suica penguin design. Come to think of it, previous sets have included practical bento accessories that can be reused after eating—such as lacquerware-style bento boxes that utilize the traditional Yamanaka-nuri lacquerware techniques of Ishikawa Prefecture—but this time, it’s chopsticks. Apparently, these chopsticks also come in two different designs.
It has already been decided that the Suica Penguin will step down as Suica’s mascot at the end of March 2027, so there’s only a short time left to enjoy collaboration products like this one. Also, the “Suica Penguin Chicken Seaweed Rice Box” featured here is available only through August 31, and with a limited quantity of 20,000 boxes, those who want to enjoy this exclusive chicken bento or get a pair of the original chopsticks should act quickly.
