JR Kyushu announced its train schedule for July 31 in light of the impact of the Reiwa 8 Kumamoto Earthquake (as of 7:00 p.m. on the 30th).
The Kyushu Shinkansen will resume service between Hakata and Kumamoto with reduced frequency starting around 6:00 a.m. Service will begin with the northbound train departing Kumamoto at 6:08 a.m. bound for Hakata and the southbound train departing Hakata at 6:42 a.m. bound for Kumamoto; however, through service with the Sanyo Shinkansen will be suspended. Service between Kumamoto and Kagoshima-Chuo will be suspended for the entire day as restoration work is expected to take some time. However, service on the West Kyushu Shinkansen between Takeo Onsen and Nagasaki will operate as usual.
Regarding limited express and D&S trains, the “Kyushu Transversal Limited Express” between Kumamoto and Oita/Beppu will operate as usual. The “Yufuin no Mori” between Hakata and Yufuin will also operate as usual, but the schedules for some trains will be adjusted due to a vehicle malfunction. The “Asobo-i!” service between Kumamoto and Miyaji will be suspended for the entire day and is scheduled to resume on August 1; the “Let’s Go by A-Train” service between Kumamoto and Misumi will be suspended for the entire day and aims to resume on August 2.
Local and Rapid trains will be suspended all day on the Kagoshima Main Line between Kumamoto and Uto, and on the Misumi Line between Uto and Misumi, with service on both lines scheduled to resume on August 2. Service will also be suspended all day on the Kagoshima Main Line between Uto and Yatsushiro. On the Kagoshima Main Line between Sendai and Kumanoshiro, service will operate with reduced frequency, and trains connecting to the Hisatsu Orange Railway will be suspended. Service on all other lines will operate as usual.
In addition, due to the impact of the earthquake, some stations will be temporarily closed on the 31st. The affected stations are Uto Station, Misumi Station, Yatsushiro Station, Shin-Yatsushiro Station, and Shin-Minamata Station in Kumamoto Prefecture, and Izumi Station in Kagoshima Prefecture—a total of six stations.
