Peach Begins Compensating Passengers for Taxi and Lodging Expenses in Case of Significant Delays or Cancellations; Up to 10,000 yen for Domestic Flights and 20,000 yen for International Flights

Peach Aviation will introduce a program on August 19 to reimburse passengers for lodging and transportation expenses incurred due to significant delays or flight cancellations caused by the airline.

Under this system, which involves submitting a retroactive claim via a form on the website, Peach will cover accommodation and transportation expenses up to a maximum of 10,000 yen per person for domestic flights and 20,000 yen per person for international flights. Receipts are required to file a claim. Payments are expected to be processed within approximately three weeks.

The difference between cases covered by compensation (at Peach’s expense) and cases not covered (at the passenger’s expense) is as follows.

Cases where Peach is liable (covered by compensation):

Flights that are significantly delayed or canceled due to reasons attributable to the airline—such as equipment maintenance or system failures under the airline’s control—and for which the decision was made between 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure time and immediately before departure

Cases where the user is responsible for the cost (not covered by insurance):

Flight irregularities caused by “force majeure” beyond the company’s control, such as inclement weather, natural disasters, or air traffic control instructions. This also includes flights for which schedule changes or cancellations have been decided at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure time.

The main expenses covered by the compensation are as follows.

・Taxi fare, etc., if you arrive late at night and public transportation has stopped running (domestic flights only)

・Hotel expenses near the airport when arriving late at night after public transportation has stopped running (domestic flights only)

・Accommodation expenses and round-trip transportation costs between the airport and the accommodation facility incurred as a result of rebooking onto a flight on the following day or later

・Transportation costs resulting from the difference in fare due to a transfer to another airline’s flight or the Shinkansen, etc.

Passengers with reservations on eligible flights will receive instructions on how to proceed via email; they can complete their claim by filling out the form within 30 days.
