Gunma Safari World will operate a free shuttle bus providing direct service between Gunma Safari Park (1 Okamoto, Tomioka City, Gunma Prefecture) and Joshin Electric Railway’s Joshu-Tomioka Station for a limited time from August 1 to September 27.
The service generally operates six round trips on weekdays and eight round trips on weekends and holidays; however, during peak periods such as the Obon holiday season and the long weekend in September, eight round trips will run regardless of whether it is a weekday or a holiday. The departure and arrival times for each trip are scheduled to coincide with the departure and arrival times at Joshu-Tomioka Station on the Joshin Electric Railway; detailed schedules are available on the park’s official website.
Until now, visitors were expected to reach the park by private car, tour bus, or taxi from the nearest station, Jōshū-Tomioka Station; however, the shuttle bus service has made it easier to visit by train, allowing even those without a car to easily enjoy the safari experience.
Gunma Safari Park is a free-range zoo where visitors can observe about 1,000 animals of approximately 100 species up close and even interact with them. Visitors can also enjoy nearby tourist attractions, such as the adjacent Tomioka Silk Mill, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
