We stayed in Cairns for four nights. I spent the first two nights at “Shangri-La The Marina, Cairns” along the marina, and the last two nights at “Crystalbrook Riley” along the Esplanade. During this trip to Cairns, I was out every day from morning till night, either participating in activities or exploring the city. It wasn’t the kind of stay where I had time to thoroughly explore the hotel, but that made me appreciate the comfort of my room all the more when I returned. I’d take a shower, unpack my bags, get ready for the next day, and then go straight to sleep. The longer you spend out and about on a trip, the more important the convenience and comfort of your hotel room become.
Cairns City: Close to the Ocean and the Mountains Cairns serves as a base for trips to the Great Barrier Reef, the rainforest, and the highlands. A marina stretches along the oceanfront, with mountain ranges rising close behind. Cairns City isn’t too large, and the marina, the Esplanade, and the restaurant district are all clustered together. This sense of scale is part of the city’s charm. However, one thing that’s surprisingly easy to overlook is the evening after returning from an activity. You might seem energetic due to the excitement of travel, but you may not realize just how tired you’ve actually become. Even though the city is compact, depending on your hotel’s location, you’ll still have to walk quite a bit. It goes without saying, but I felt that choosing a hotel based on the purpose of your trip really does help reduce the physical strain while you’re there.
