Based on a decision by the Japanese government in response to a request for assistance from the Venezuelan government, JICA dispatched the second medical team of the Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) team. This team will take over from the first team, which is already active on the ground, and will provide medical examinations and treatment to disaster victims in the affected area.

Departure of the Second Medical Team of the Japan International Emergency Assistance Corps
On the afternoon of Wednesday, July 15, members of the second medical team, dispatched from across the country, gathered at Narita Airport. The Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Japan, a Director-General from the Bureau of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the representative of the JDR medical team, and a JICA Executive Director each offered words of encouragement and saw off the departing team members.
Following that, 33 members of the JDR medical team will depart Japan and are scheduled to arrive in Venezuela on the 16th.
