The Mitsui Fudosan Group will open its top-tier luxury hotel, “HOTEL THE MITSUI HAKONE” (located at 450-1 Minakazawa, Kowakudani, Hakone-machi, Ashigarashimo-gun, Kanagawa Prefecture, and other locations), on December 15. Reservations will be accepted starting July 15.
This will be the second property under the HOTEL THE MITSUI brand, following the one in Kyoto. Located in the Kowakudani area—where the Mitsui family once had a vacation home—within the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, the hotel is planned to make the most of its approximately 14-hectare site rich in natural beauty and the majestic views of Mount Asama. The interior design will be handled by the world-renowned design firm “Yabu Pushelberg.” Additionally, the hotel will partner with Marriott International’s luxury hotel brand, “The Luxury Collection,” and expects to attract members from around the world.
All 126 guest rooms are equipped with private baths fed by natural hot spring water sourced from the property. Room sizes range from the 48-square-meter “Deluxe Room” to the “Presidential Suite,” which exceeds 200 square meters, and the top-tier “Signature Villa”; the standalone villa-style accommodations feature both indoor and outdoor baths.
Facilities on the premises include “Thermal Spring,” an indoor and outdoor natural hot spring facility where guests can enjoy the waters in swimwear, as well as a spa featuring a total of five treatment rooms.
The property features three dining venues: “Sankei,” a Japanese restaurant serving kaiseki, sushi, and teppanyaki; “RIVERINE,” an all-day dining restaurant offering a buffet and grilled dishes featuring seafood from Sagami Bay; and “The Bar LAMBENT,” a bar serving premium Japanese whiskeys and other beverages. Hiroshi Takahashi, who has served as Deputy Executive Chef at The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo and Executive Chef at Halekulani Okinawa, has been appointed Executive Chef.
At the far end of the grounds, a sukiya-style guest house called “Shiki-an” will be built by Kyoto-based “Yasui Moku Construction,” which has been involved in preservation work on sites such as Katsura Rikyu; it will be used for tea ceremonies and other events. In addition, a banquet hall (function room) capable of accommodating up to 50 guests for a standing reception, as well as a yoga terrace, will also be provided.
