Kansai International Airport to Introduce Toll Gates in Terminal 1 Pickup Lanes to Ease Congestion; Free for Up to 10 Minutes, but No Maximum Charge

Kansai Airport will introduce a gate system in the pickup and drop-off lane on the first floor of Terminal 1 at Kansai International Airport, which will operate 24 hours a day starting at 12:00 a.m. on July 18. The system is for passenger cars and has a capacity of 68 vehicles (including 2 spaces reserved for people with disabilities).

Prolonged parking and traffic congestion have become a daily occurrence in this drop-off lane, and the goal is to alleviate congestion by implementing a paid system using a gate system.

The first 10 minutes after entering the gate are free (up to twice per day); 900 yen is charged for the 10th to 15th minute; after 15 minutes, 300 yen is added for every 5 minutes. There is no maximum charge. Payment can be made by cash, credit card, or electronic money.

It is also planned to introduce a similar system in the drop-off and pick-up lanes on the 4th floor of Terminal 1 in the future.
