The Sendai Junior Chamber and the Tanabata Fireworks Festival Special Committee will hold the “57th Sendai Tanabata Fireworks Festival” on August 5. The event will take place around Aobayama Park and along the Hirose River embankment, with the fireworks display running from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (The event will proceed rain or shine, but will be canceled in case of severe weather.)

Held as the eve-of-the-festival celebration for the “Sendai Tanabata Festival,” one of Tohoku’s premier events, this urban fireworks display attracts approximately 450,000 visitors each year. In 2026, under the theme “HOPE — Blooming Together: Flowers for the Future,” approximately 16,000 fireworks will be launched.

Paid seating at Tohoku University’s sports grounds costs 4,500 yen per seat. Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, and applications are being accepted on the dedicated webpage until 7:30 p.m. on August 5 (sales end when tickets are sold out).

In addition, free viewing areas will be set up at Omachi West Park, the north side of West Park, Nakanoze Grounds, and Aobayama Park. Food and beverage vendors will also be available at each venue. Please check the official tournament website for details.
