With the introduction of the “Supreme Class” on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines, JR Central and JR West will discontinue the onboard sales service provided by trolleys on the Sanyo Shinkansen as of October 1 and fully transition to a mobile ordering service that allows passengers to place orders using their own smartphones or other devices.

In addition, the company will revise its policy regarding the distribution of complimentary wet towels in the Green Car cars on the Sanyo Shinkansen, shifting from the previous practice of distributing them to all passengers to a system where only passengers who wish to do so can order them for free via the mobile ordering service.

Supreme Class is the highest-class seating option, surpassing even Green Car, and is scheduled to be introduced in stages starting October 1. On the N700S (16-car trainsets) operating the Nozomi and Hikari services, Kodama services on the N700S (16-car trains). In addition to these private-compartment-style “Cabin” seats (in Cars 7 and 10), the plan is to introduce semi-private “Seat” compartments (in Car 10) by fiscal year 2027, along with dedicated Wi-Fi connectivity.

On the Nozomi and Hikari trains, passengers will be offered a welcome service featuring beverages and snacks, and will be able to order food and beverages—including local specialties along the route—via mobile ordering using dedicated tablets installed at each seat.
