Tokaido Shinkansen to Launch “Supreme Class,” Its Highest-Tier Seating, in October. Only Two Fully Private Compartments Available; Fares Start at 42,100 yen for the Tokyo–Osaka Route

JR Central and JR West will begin rolling out “Supreme Class”—the highest-class seating option, surpassing even Green Cars—on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines (Tokyo–Hakata) starting October 1.

The trains to be introduced will be the “N700S” (16-car trains). Fully private “Cabin” compartments will be located in Cars 7 and 10, while semi-private “Seat” compartments will be located in Car 10. However, service for the semi-private compartments is scheduled to begin during fiscal year 2027.

The service will be available on Nozomi, Hikari, and Kodama trains, with approximately 12 round-trip trains scheduled per day (as of October 2026).

The first train on Cabin’s inaugural day of operation (October 1) is scheduled to be the “Nozomi No. 1,” departing Tokyo Station at 6:00 a.m. Tickets will go on sale on September 15 at 5:30 a.m. Tickets will be available exclusively through Express Reservation and Smart EX (EX via LINE is not included).

In addition, ahead of the launch of the Supreme Class Cabin service, test rides will be held on July 25 and 26. Capacity is limited to 24 passengers (selected by lottery), and applications are being accepted via a dedicated form until June 30.
