Tokaido Shinkansen to Introduce “Carriages for Families with Children” During Obon and Silver Week. Car 12 on the “Nozomi” between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka

JR Central will designate “family-friendly cars” on the Tokaido Shinkansen during the Obon and Silver Week holidays.

The service will run during the Obon period from August 7 to 16 (90 trains in total) and during Silver Week from September 19 to 23 (46 trains in total). In both cases, the service applies to Car 12 of the “Nozomi” trains running between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka; “seats with extra-large luggage space” will not be available.

“Family-friendly cars” are cars designed so that passengers can travel with their children without worrying about disturbing others (though general passengers may also be on board). These cars are located in Car No. 12, which is close to restrooms equipped with diaper-changing stations and a multipurpose room.

Tickets go on sale at 10:00 a.m. one month before the date of travel. In addition to booking via EX Services (Express Reservation, Smart EX, and LINE to EX), tickets can be purchased at station and travel agency ticket counters, as well as at reserved-seat ticket vending machines.
