Express trains, including Shinkansen trains, cannot be used; when using them, a fare is required in addition to the regular fare. However, only for trips between Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto and Shin-Aomori on the Hokkaido Shinkansen, passengers may travel in available standing room by purchasing a separate express ticket.
In addition, as a special exception, limited express trains can be used on the sections listed below. If your journey spans sections not listed here, you will need a ticket and limited express ticket covering the entire route.
Ou Main Line: Between Shin-Aomori Station and Aomori Station (Available seats in non-reserved cars)
Sekisho Line: Between Shin-Yubari Station and Shintoku Station (vacant reserved seats in standard-class cars)
Muroran Main Line: Between Higashi-Muroran Station and Muroran Station (vacant reserved seats in standard-class cars)
