Chancellor Tanaka Meets with Philippine President Marcos | News & PR

JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met with President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. of the Republic of the Philippines in Tokyo on May 28.

At the beginning of the meeting, President Tanaka mentioned that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Philippines. He also referred to the cooperation through the dispatch of the Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) team to the Navotas Sanitary Landfill Fire in April of this year, and expressed his desire to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the future.

In response, President Marcos expressed his gratitude for JICA’s support to date and his expectations for further cooperation.

The two sides also exchanged views on the need to address the situation in the Middle East, the progress of the Mindanao peace process, as well as the need to address issues related to the smooth implementation of critical infrastructure projects.
