Vice President Miyazaki Meets with Laotian Prime Minister Sornsai Siphandong | News & PR

On April 28, JICA Vice President Katsura Miyazaki met with Lao Prime Minister Sornsai Siiphandong in Vientiane, the capital of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, during his visit.

At the beginning of the meeting, Vice President Miyazaki informed the participants that the relationship between Laos and Japan has become stronger as a result of various ceremonies held last year on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Laos and the 60th anniversary of the dispatch of JICA overseas cooperation volunteers, and that the two countries intend to cooperate in diverse fields, while emphasizing continuity in the cooperation to date.

In response, Prime Minister Sornsai expressed his gratitude to Japan and JICA for their longstanding support. He also expressed his expectations for JICA’s cooperation to help Laos graduate from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status and achieve self-sustaining, high-quality economic development.

Both sides also confirmed the need for continued cooperation despite the unstable international situation.
