President Tanaka meets with President Lalio of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) | News & PR

JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met with IFAD President Alvaro Lario at JICA headquarters on May 21.

At the beginning of the meeting, President Tanaka expressed his gratitude for the past cooperation and collaboration. In particular, he noted that since the last meeting between President Lalio and President Tanaka in November 2022, the areas of cooperation and collaboration between the two institutions have steadily expanded, and again expressed his gratitude to the recipients.

In response, IFAD President Lalio reaffirmed the importance of the partnership between the two organizations, noting that IFAD and JICA have been working well together to promote the “SHEP 1 Million People Declaration,” which aims to reach 1 million beneficiaries of the “SHEP: the Smallholder Horticulture Empowerment & Promotion (market-oriented agriculture promotion)” initiative. He reaffirmed the importance of the partnership between IFAD and JICA, and the good cooperation between IFAD and JICA toward the “SHEP: the Smallholder Horticulture Empowerment & Promotion (Market Oriented Agriculture Promotion)” initiative to reach one million beneficiaries.

They also exchanged views on cooperation in agriculture and rural development, private sector development, and co-financing, such as SHEP and CARD (the Coalition for African Rice Development).
