Oita Prefecture’s first open-top bus traveling between Beppu and Yufuin. Yubutake-style design, 3.8 m high.

KAMENOI OPEN TOP BUS ~Yunokaze~, the first open-top bus in Oita Prefecture, will begin service on July 18, 2012, touring the Beppu area.

The vehicle is the same as those operating in Fukuoka City and Kitakyushu City, and is a roofless two-story structure with a height of approximately 3.8 meters. The design of the vehicle is based on the image of a hot spring bath tub, with a spray of steam and hot water. Kamenoi Bus official characters, “Kametan and Usatan,” designed on the car body, greet passengers at the boarding gate. The seats are colored brown to harmonize with the vehicle’s exterior and the cityscape.

The route will be a 90-minute “Beppu Round Trip Course” that will take passengers to the Beppu area, which boasts one of the largest number and volume of hot springs in Japan, and offer views of the Kannawa hot springs, Mount Taiheizan, and Beppu Bay. This course is limited to September 23, and the “Beppu – Yufuin Course,” which starts and ends at the Yufuin Station Bus Center and Beppu Station, is scheduled to begin operation around the fall of 2026.
