Hokulea, a traditional Hawaiian voyage, will call at ports in Japan for the first time in 20 years, including Okinawa, Fukuoka, Yokohama, and Hokkaido from April to September 2027.

The Polynesian Voyaging Association announced that Hokulea will call at Japan from April to September 2027.

A hōkūleʻa is a catamaran that uses the celestial bodies, the sea, and the wind to cross the ocean without an engine or compass, and is based on the navigation technique used by the Polynesians when they discovered Hawaii.

The Polynesian Voyaging Society is conducting a Pacific Rim voyage by two vessels, Hokulea and Hikianalia, from 2023 to 2028, with a port call in Japan from April to September 2027 at the end of the trip. This will be the first time in 20 years that Hokulea will visit Japan.

Ports of call will be Okinawa, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Yamaguchi, Ehime, Yokohama, and Hokkaido.
