The Sapporo Tourist Association announced that the Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill (1 Hitsujigaoka, Toyohira-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido), which it manages and operates, will be closed from April 1, 2027, for facility renewal.
The Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill opened on September 18, 1959, and has been visited by a total of more than 32.3 million people as a representative scenic spot of Sapporo, Hokkaido. The “Clark on the Hill,” a bronze statue of Dr. William Smith Clark, also known as the “Clark Statue,” has been a popular photo spot since 1976.
Since April 1985, when it became a year-round facility, it has been open every day of the year. However, the aging of the facility has become an issue, and the company has decided to move forward with a rebuilding plan. The last day of operation is March 31, 2027, and the reopening is scheduled for the summer of 2028.
