Disaster Situation

Since early April, a fire has been burning in a sanitary landfill facility located in Navotas City, Metro Manila, Republic of the Philippines, posing a serious threat to residents of the area and surrounding communities. There have been reports of respiratory symptoms caused by smoke inhalation in the area.

Dispatch of International Emergency Relief Teams of Experts

In response to a request from the government of the Republic of the Philippines, the Japanese government decided to dispatch an international emergency relief team and a team of experts on April 22, and JICA began preparations for the dispatch of the team of experts. The outline is as follows.

(1) One expert team leader, two deputy leaders, and four experts in the fields of firefighting technology, environmental impact/waste management, waste management, and support plan/work coordinator will be dispatched from Thursday, April 23.

(2) The dispatch period is expected to be one week.
