The Yagisawa, Naramata, and Fujiwara dams in Minakami Town, Gunma Prefecture, will hold a public inspection and discharge event, “Minakami 3 Dams: Spring Inspection and Large Discharge 2026 (Yagi Narafuji),” on May 16 and 17. Prior to this event, general ticket sales began on March 2.
This is an annual “inspection discharge” to check for safe operation of the discharge facilities before the flood season begins, and is a springtime tradition that takes place at all three dams. The three dams upstream of the Tone River are commonly referred to as “Kanto’s water reservoirs” and play an important role in flood control, water utilization, and power generation. In addition to experiencing the powerful discharge scene up close, visitors can also enjoy a tour of the inside of the embankment and facilities, which are normally inaccessible, as well as the “Minakami Marche” featuring local delicacies.
Participation tickets will be sold as part of accommodation plans at affiliated lodging facilities and as a gift in return for tax payment, and general tickets will be sold at Seven-Eleven stores nationwide and on the Seven Ticket website. Visitors to each dam are not allowed to come by public transportation, and must purchase both a participation ticket and a parking ticket as a set. Parking tickets are limited in number and must be reserved in advance (for a fee) in order to reduce congestion and ensure safety.
