JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met with Woo Chung Um, CEO of the Global Energy Alliance For People And Planet Llc. (“GEAPP”), at JICA Headquarters on March 30.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Tanaka mentioned the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC, to be signed in August 2025) between GEAPP and JICA, and expressed his desire to continue discussions on possible collaboration in each sector.
In response, Mr. Um noted the difficulty of achieving last-mile access to electricity and the importance of philanthropic organizations and bilateral and multilateral development agencies working together to act as “catalysts” to promote efforts to improve access to electricity. The two parties also exchanged views on issues and possibilities for collaboration in access to electricity and the use of philanthropic funds in Asia.
