ANA’s three new seats for international flights were unveiled for the first time in Japan. New Business Class “THE Room FX” with private room design, and its overwhelming “enveloping” sensation.

New Business Class “THE Room FX” The private business class “THE Room FX” was created to provide the same experience on the 787-9 mid-size aircraft as “THE Room” already available on the 777-300ER international fleet. The development took about seven years. Safran Seats (France) and Acumen Design Associate (U.K.) joined forces to create a completely original ANA product. The high-backed walls and sliding doors provide a sense of envelopment, and the “pre-reclining” backrest is pre-sloped to create an experience similar to relaxing on a sofa in a living room. While maintaining the feature of two seats facing each other (with one sitting with its back to the nose of the plane), the seat pitch is 103 inches (approximately 2.6 meters) and the maximum length when fully flat is 76.5 inches (approximately 194 centimeters). With a width of 41.5 inches (approx. 105 cm) and a waist of 27.0 inches (approx. 69 cm), even large men can lie down with plenty of room to spare. Other features include a 24-inch personal HD monitor, a total of two accessory compartments for headphones, USB Type-A/C charging ports, a universal power outlet, a wireless charging pad, and Bluetooth audio capability. In introducing the same private seats as those on the large 777 to the medium-sized 787, the company has taken on the challenge of maximizing space without sacrificing comfort by making the doors and walls thinner, while increasing the cushion thickness to improve seating and sleeping comfort. When I actually sat down and slept in the booth, I found that the pre-reclining angle is exquisitely finished, and there is room to arrange it with pillows and cushions, so that once the door is closed, you will feel completely at home. The maximum length of the bed is 194 cm, which is also ample for turning over in bed.

The new Premium Economy Class Pre-Eco and Economy are the latest ergonomic models from RECARO Aircraft Seating of Germany, arranged to ANA’s specifications. The new Pre-Eco class is a confident product that ANA has “caught up with the world’s highest standards,” with the seat pitch increased from 38 inches to 40 inches (approx. 101 cm) and the amount of recline increased from 7 inches to 9 inches (approx. 23 cm). As you can see in the photo, the effect of the increased reclining angle is significant, allowing the seat to fall to an angle at which you can “sleep” securely. The seat pitch has also been widened, so there is still plenty of room even when the front seats are fully reclined, and it seems possible to use the table for drinks and tablets without removing them. Another feature of this seat is the large wings on either side of the headrests that block the view of the surroundings, and when I actually sat down, the faces of the seats next to me were completely hidden, giving me a high sense of privacy. The window seat is also difficult to see from the aisle, which may meet the needs of passengers who do not want their sleeping faces to be seen. Other features include a 15.6-inch personal monitor, USB Type-A/C charging port, universal power outlet, and Bluetooth audio capability.
