J2 “Montedio Yamagata” new stadium concept by ES-CON; scheduled to open in August 2028; roof required after fall/spring system.

On February 26, S-CON decided to invest up to 5 billion yen in Montedio Football Park (MFP), which is promoting a new stadium concept in Yamagata Prefecture scheduled to open in August 2028. The company also signed a share subscription agreement with Montedio Yamagata, the parent company of the soccer club and operator of the new stadium, which it plans to make a consolidated subsidiary in June.

The planned site of the new stadium, “Montedio Football Park,” is located in the special parking lot of the Yamagata Prefectural Sports Park in Tendo City, located in the center of Yamagata Prefecture. It is approximately 7 minutes by car from the Yamagata Kita Interchange and a 15-minute walk from JR Tendo Minami Station, making it an easily accessible location from major transportation hubs in the region, and it is expected to attract visitors from the Sendai area and Yamagata Airport.

In this concept, centering on a stadium that can be used throughout the year, various visitor-attracting functions that generate not only soccer matches but also daily bustle, and industrial development functions such as shared offices will be developed.

Montedio Yamagata, a J2 League team based in Tendo City, Yamagata Prefecture, joined the J League in 1999. The stadium currently hosts home games, but the distance between the pitch and the spectators is too great, and the stadium is located in a snowy area that requires a roof for spectator seating under the “fall-spring system” to be introduced in the J-League starting in 2026. To solve these issues, MFP was established as a subsidiary of Montedio Yamagata to construct and operate the new stadium.

In Kitahiroshima City, Hokkaido, ES-CON is participating in real estate development around ES CON FIELD HOKKAIDO and urban development projects in cooperation with the local government around the west exit of JR Kitahiroshima Station. (We will use this knowledge to strongly promote sustainable urban development (in Yamagata as well), starting with the new stadium,” he declared.

Subsidiary Escondido Sports & Entertainment plans to sign an advisory contract with Montedio Yamagata, the company said.
