The City of Yokohama held the “GREEN x EXPO 2027 One Year Prior to the Event” on March 19 at the Yokohama City Hall Atrium. Mayor Takeharu Yamanaka, Green Captain Manatsu Akimoto, and others took the stage.

In the first half of the session, Yokohama Mayor Takeharu Yamanaka gave an update on the City of Yokohama’s exhibit. The Urban GX Village, located near the main gate, will serve as the “base for disseminating information using the building space” (approx. 3,000 m2), while the Satoyama Village, rich in nature, will serve as the “base for activities using the field” (approx. 10,000 m2).

The concept of the center is to “open the world’s tomorrow together. The facility is divided into two zones: the Behavior Change Experience Zone and the Advanced Technology Experience Zone. The facility is divided into two zones, the Behavior Change Experience Zone and the Advanced Technology Experience Zone, where visitors can learn about the latest technologies and resource recycling mechanisms through exhibits.

The concept of the activity base is “a place where environmental activity groups can play an active role. In addition to a welcome garden, a field for creating together, an activity plaza, and a forest for observation and play, the facility is also planned to provide food and beverages.

Volunteer staff needed to run the event are being recruited until April 30: approximately 2,000 for plant management and 10,000 for operations. In addition, three types of volunteers for the Yokohama City exhibit are scheduled to be recruited from around July.

In order to have more citizens experience the Horticultural Exposition, the “School Invitational” and “Children’s Invitational” programs are planned, which include a combination of pre-arranged study and field trip.

The School Invitational is open to students of municipal elementary schools, junior high schools, and high schools (approximately 500 schools, 260,000 students), and is scheduled for 53 weekdays from April to June.

During the event, “Yokohama Week” and “Citizens’ Activity Day” will be held for about one week as city events created together with residents of the 18 wards. The “Citizens’ Activity Day” will include stage presentations and booths for the exhibition and sale of locally produced and consumed products and specialties of the city.

The city also offers a personalized hometown tax return ticket for visitors from outside the city, and will start accepting applications on April 1.

In the latter half of the presentation, four types of “resource-recycling uniforms” worn by volunteer staff at activity sites utilizing the field were unveiled. Green Captain Manatsu Akimoto appeared in a coordinated skirt combination. Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and its subsidiary Pieklex are in charge of the development of the uniforms.
