On April 24, Seiko Watch Corporation will release two types of “Seiko Prospex Diver’s 1965 Heritage Shohei Otani 2026 Limited Edition” (SBDC222/SBDC224) to commemorate the achievements of Shohei Otani, who serves as the company’s image character. Both models are priced at 286,000 yen and will be limited to 1,700 pieces each in Japan.
This model is based on the “Divers 1965 Heritage,” a modern interpretation of Japan’s first diver’s watch, launched in 1965. The dial colors are gray and blue, reminiscent of the Los Angeles Dodgers visitor’s uniform. In addition, the bezel, crown, hands, and indexes are decorated with gold to celebrate the achievement of winning the MVP award for the fourth time in three consecutive years. This was inspired by the “gold MLB logo patch” that only a limited number of players, such as the previous season’s MVP and Rookie of the Year, can wear on their uniforms.
As a detail unique to the limited edition model, Otani’s number “17” is marked on the crown and his signature is marked on the buckle. The back of the watch is engraved with the words “SHOHEI OHTANI LIMITED EDITION” and a serial number.
In terms of functionality, the bracelet has a function that allows fine adjustment of the bracelet size within a range of up to approximately 15 mm (6 steps of approximately 2.5 mm each). The bracelet can be worn not only over a wetsuit when diving, but can also accommodate changes in the circumference of the arm in daily life, and is said to maintain a comfortable fit at all times.
The movement is equipped with the mechanical caliber 6R55, which boasts a power reserve of approximately 72 hours, and is water resistant to 300 meters for air diving, ensuring high reliability in active situations. The product will be packaged in a special box with Otani’s signature on it.
