Background and Objectives

Signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) for the technical cooperation project “Project for restoration of degraded pastures and sustainable conversion of agricultural lands in the Cerrado region” (early adoption of the 2025 Request Survey) at the event.

To present the results of a proof-of-concept (PoC) project in progress for an already adopted technical cooperation project.

Contents

The “Technical Cooperation Project for Restoration of Degraded Pastureland and Conversion of Agricultural Land”, which was requested by the Brazilian government at the time of the 2025 Request Survey, was reported early, and a signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) for the technical cooperation project “Project for Restoration of Degraded Pastureland and Sustainable Conversion of Agricultural Land in the Cerrado Region” (project adopted early in the 2025 Request Survey) was held at the COP30 venue. The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) for the technical cooperation project “Degraded Pastureland Restoration and Sustainable Agricultural Land Conversion Project in the Cerrado Region (Early Adoption Project)” was held at the venue of COP30. In conjunction with the signing ceremony, Vice President Miyazaki, counterpart organizations, and the Embassy of Japan in Brazil each delivered a speech on the significance and expected impact of the project. In addition, a researcher from Brazil’s Agricultural and Pastoral Research Corporation (Emprapa), the Brazilian implementing agency for the project, presented the results of a proof-of-concept (PoC) project underway for the project.

*After the closing of the meeting, the MOC unsigned minutes were signed in a separate room, and both parties expressed their gratitude for the successful conclusion of the event and confirmed further progress in their cooperation. At the end of the meeting, JICA mentioned the Brazilian government’s request for participation in the Green Expo.
