The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the Government of Burkina Faso on February 3 in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, for the “Ouagadougou Equipment Maintenance Area Project for the Sustainable Use of Irrigation Facilities”. The G/A was signed by Mr. Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso, and Mr. Takemichi Kobayashi, Director of JICA Burkina Faso Branch Office.

This project will contribute to the sustainable use of irrigation facilities and improvement of agricultural productivity, and will materialize Japan’s commitment to strengthen agricultural systems to alleviate poverty and food insecurity in Africa and support African-led efforts for peace, stability, and prosperity. This cooperation will also contribute to the international deployment of Japanese products and technologies, including construction vehicles such as dump trucks and bulldozers, survey equipment such as bathymetric survey equipment, and machine tools such as lathes.

Business Objectives
This project will strengthen the implementation system for the rehabilitation, maintenance, and development of irrigated areas by rehabilitating the Ouagadougou equipment maintenance station and upgrading irrigation equipment, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the agricultural production system in the country.

Detailed design, bidding assistance, supervision of implementation and procurement, equipment utilization and maintenance methods, and operational guidance for the maintenance yard.
