Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine (2-9-89 Sumiyoshi, Sumiyoshi-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture) has opened a special page about Hatsumode in 2026, providing information on opening times and precautions.
The gates will open at 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve night and continue until 8 p.m. on New Year’s Day; 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on January 2 and 3; 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on January 4 and 5; and 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on January 6.
In addition, a red seal with embroidery will be available until February 1, and a red seal depicting a white horse ritual will be available only on January 7.
Parking will be closed from December 31 to January 3 due to traffic restrictions in the area, and will be reopened on January 4 at the rate of 1,000 yen per hour (for standard vehicles), but visitors are encouraged to use public transportation as it is expected to be particularly crowded during January.
To prevent accidents, the Godairiki Ishimori (stone picking) and Tsurimikuji lottery will be suspended from December 31 to January 4, and no stalls will be open until January 5.
