Shinjuku Station West Exit “Shinjuku no Me”, special lighting for the year-end and New Year’s holidays only. It will also appear at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building on New Year’s Eve.

As part of the “Shinjuku Neon Walk” project, the Executive Committee of the Tokyo Night Time Attraction Creation Project is conducting a special lighting of “Shinjuku’s Eye” until January 4, 2026. The lighting hours will be from 4:00 p.m. to 24:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve (December 31) and extended until 8:00 a.m. on January 1.

The Eye of Shinjuku is a public artwork located in the Shinjuku Station West Exit Underground Plaza (formerly the Shinjuku SUBARU Building), created by sculptor Yoshiko Miyashita in 1969; the pupil is 3.4 meters high and 10 meters wide. The pupil used to rotate with embedded lighting, but it has long been unlit due to the demolition of the Shinjuku SUBARU Building that began in 2018.

The Shinjuku eyes photographed by Ninagawa will also appear in the projection mapping by Mika Ninagawa with EiM that will decorate the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building during the “Happy New Year Tokyo 2026” New Year’s Eve countdown event (applications to view the event closed on December 7, 2012).
