Marimekko to Launch Japan-exclusive Tote Bags and Lunch Bags. Also new “Mari Denim” products.

Marimekko, the Finnish design house developed by LOOK, will release two Japan-exclusive anniversary bags on January 30 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the brand’s founding. Prior to the general release, the official online store in Japan will start pre-sales on January 16.

The lineup includes a “Lunch Bag” (15,400 yen) and a “Tote Bag” (13,200 yen). The special design is a fusion of two iconic floral patterns by Maija Isola, Unikko and Vihkiru, and is made of natural fabric based on raw silk and printed at the Marimekko factory in Finland.

In conjunction with the release of the two bags, new apparel from the MariDenim denim collection and new tableware from the home collection will also be available for pre-sale at the official online store in Japan.

The Mari Denim lineup includes a dusty pink-colored “Denim Shirt” (67,100 yen) and “Denim Pants” (56,100 yen) set-up, both decorated with Unikko. The home collection lineup includes “Glass Plate Set” (15,400 yen for four plates) and “Chopstick Rest Set” (9,340 yen for four chopstick rests) with Unikko & Kivett design that looks like blooming flowers.

As a special 75th anniversary novelty, a limited number of 75 “fabric bags” featuring this year’s theme colors and art will be given away. The offer is valid for purchases of 27,500 yen or more including tax (excluding sale items) at the official online store in Japan after 10:00 a.m. on January 16, and will end as soon as the bags are gone.
