Hakone Tozan Railway launches its first new model in 14 years, the Type 4000. The first car is an observation car.

Odakyu Hakone will introduce its first new train in 14 years, the Type 4000, to the Hakone Tozan Railway in fiscal 2028.

The exterior of the building will have a streamlined front shape that offers both a view and softness, and the main color will be the company’s original “Vermillion Hakone,” with a red base color inspired by the Hakone Tozan Railway and its sister railroad in Switzerland (the Rhaetian Railway).

The cabins will have large windows equivalent to those of the 3000 class (Allegra), and some seats will be angled toward the window. The pillars are designed with Hakone’s traditional marquetry to create a more glamorous impression.

The lead car will be positioned as an observation car to enjoy the view ahead, and will be the first to have wheelchair space and luggage space for storing large baggage. The middle car, on the other hand, will have a single row of box seats on one side to increase seat width and aisle width, creating a spacious interior.
