NEXCO West Japan has announced a regulation plan for the renewal work between Suita JCT and Kobe JCT on the Chugoku Expressway (E2A) from January to April 2026.
After a year-end and New Year’s break, lane and speed restrictions will be in effect from January 5 between Takarazuka IC and Kobe JCT (with some exceptions). Lane restrictions will be in place on both the upper and lower lanes all day long, with an additional lane restriction on each lane at night. The speed limit will be set at 50km/h for a portion of the all-day lane control section.
The roadway will be restricted in order to replace the floorboards and upgrade the railings. Speed restrictions will also be in place due to the narrowing of the shoulder in some areas. The company does not plan to close the road to traffic at this time, but there may be other restrictions in addition to those mentioned above.
To ease traffic congestion, drivers are urged to divert to the New Tomei Expressway (E1A) and other routes during the restricted period, and to allow extra time for traffic. The renewal website also provides real-time travel time comparisons.
In addition, the 50 km/h limit will remain in effect on some sections during the year-end and New Year’s holiday when the restrictions are removed, so drivers are urged to pay attention to the distance between vehicles.
