On January 13, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Islamabad, the capital of the country, for the “Pediatric Health Care Facility Development Project in South Punjab”. The G/A was signed by Mr. Milan Mohiyuddin Soomro, Senior Director General (Japan), Ministry of Economy, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and Mr. Naoaki Miyata, Director, JICA Pakistan Office.

This project will also contribute to the international deployment of Japan’s technology by establishing a neonatal and pediatric medical center that will also serve as a disaster base hospital, in order to improve access to continuous care for mothers and children in the maternal and child health field, which Japan has long supported.

Business Objectives
This project aims to strengthen the diagnostic and treatment system at Multan Children’s Hospital in Multan, Punjab, by upgrading the facilities and medical equipment necessary for diagnosis and treatment of high-risk newborns and children, and to improve the hospital’s function as a disaster base hospital, thereby contributing to improving the overall quality of pediatric healthcare services in South Punjab and neighboring provinces.
