Starbucks Coffee Japan and Kirishima Sake Brewery will open KIRISHIMA GREENSHIP icoia (4-5869-8 Shimokawahigashi, Miyakonojo, Miyazaki Prefecture), a collaborative project, on January 27.

The 4,686 m2 site includes a botanical garden “Meguri-no-Mori” where visitors can enjoy coffee surrounded by subtropical plants, the first Starbucks store in Miyakonojo with a drive-through service, a Kirishima Sake Brewery directly managed store “Kirishima Life Store ipomea” selling food products, sake containers and sundries that make the drinking scene enjoyable, a rooftop garden, and a lawn area. STORE ipomea,” a store directly owned by Kirishima Sake Brewery that sells food, sake containers, and sundries, as well as a rooftop garden and lawn area. It aims to be a place of “relaxation” where visitors can feel the rich nature of Miyakonojo in body and soul.

The facility, which uses an abundance of bamboo, was designed by architect Kengo Kuma. In consideration of the natural environment, the botanical garden utilizes thermal energy from distilled hot water generated during the shochu distillation process, and the facility is powered 100% by sweet potatoes. Coffee grounds from two Starbucks stores in Miyakonojo City will also be used to generate sweet potato power for icoia’s electricity.
