Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism makes an emergency announcement on the forecast of heavy snow from January 21 to 25. If snowfall is unavoidable, please prepare blankets and food.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) has issued an “Emergency Announcement on Heavy Snowfall,” warning of the possibility of heavy snowfall from January 21 to 25.

During the above period, a strong winter pressure pattern is expected to continue around Japan. In particular, there is a risk of heavy snowfall over the Sea of Japan from northern Japan to western Japan for five days or more, and heavy snowfall is also possible on parts of the Pacific Ocean side, where snowfall is usually rare.

In order to avoid being stranded, drivers are asked to refrain from going out unnecessarily. If they must go out, they are asked to install winter tires and chains, and to be prepared for snow and ice with shovels and non-slip clothing, as well as blankets, food, and beverages for a large stay.

Since there is a possibility of precautionary road closures on highways and arterial roads, it is important to check weather and traffic information frequently. The impact on public transportation will also require attention.
