IKEA Japan announced that IKEA Harajuku and IKEA Shinjuku will close their doors on February 8. In conjunction with the closure, both stores will hold a closing sale from January 23 to February 8 with discounts of up to 50% off.
IKEA Harajuku and IKEA Shinjuku opened in June 2020 and May 2021, respectively, as IKEA’s urban center stores. The stores have gained popularity for their easy access from train stations, compact product lineup tailored to urban living, and Swedish food takeout, but will close after 5-6 years. The company plans to consolidate its operations by positioning IKEA Shibuya, another city-center store, as the brand’s base in central Tokyo.
On February 8, the last business day, both stores will close at 6:00 pm. Also note that the final pick-up date for the store pick-up service is February 1 at 9:00 p.m., and if no pick-up is made after three days from the designated date, the service will be canceled.
After the close of business, returns and exchanges will be accepted at each store until 5:00 p.m. on February 8, but after that, they will be handled at IKEA stores nationwide, including IKEA Shibuya, or at the customer support center.
IKEA Family and IKEA Business Network members who have registered these two stores as “IKEA stores near you” are also encouraged to change their registration to IKEA Shibuya or other stores (if no change is made by February 8, the registration will be automatically changed to IKEA Shibuya). ).
