&CRUISE”, a new service between Nihonbashi and Toyosu, will start operation in April. Fully electric-powered ship “Nihonbashi e-Liner” by Mitsui Fudosan Co.

Mitsui Fudosan has launched a boating project, &CRUISE, and will open the Nihonbashi – Toyosu route in April.

Two fully electric vessels powered by lithium-ion rechargeable batteries will operate between Nihonbashi Riverwalk and Urban Dock Lalaport Toyosu. This is the first time in Japan that a fully electric passenger boat is used on a regular route. Kanko Kisen Kogyo will be the operator of the vessels, which will be used not only for sightseeing but also for daily use and emergencies.

The vessel to be used is the “Nihonbashi e-LINER,” named after the five “e’s” of Edo (Edo), Experience, Expand, Emergency, and Ecology. The power will be generated by renewable energy and recharged at a facility located adjacent to the Toyosu landing.

The ship is equipped with electrical outlets and free Wi-Fi, and accommodates the loading of bicycles. Wheelchair-accessible lifts and toilets are provided to ensure barrier-free access. The cabin carpets are made of 100% recycled materials and other environmentally friendly features.

The company plans to extend the line to the Tsukiji area in conjunction with the redevelopment of the former Tsukiji market site, and aims to develop a boat transportation network linking the Nihonbashi Riverwalk and the waterfront area.
