All day long lane restrictions due to renewal work on the uphill section of the Joshinetsu Expressway from Saku IC to Usui Karuizawa IC. On Saturdays and Sundays, the uphill lane is further restricted.

NEXCO East Japan Nagano Construction Office will enforce all-day lane restrictions from March 2 to 6, 9 to 19, 23 to April 24, and May 7 to August 6 for the renewal work on the Joshinetsu Expressway (E18) between Saku IC and Usui Karuizawa IC (uphill).

Traffic congestion is expected to occur every Sunday during the period due to the reinforcement of the aging Akarusan Tunnel and the replacement of bridge boards on the Wamisawa Bridge, with the peak time between 16:00 and 17:00.

In the restricted section, the number of lanes is reduced from two to one in each direction, and on Saturdays and Sundays, the number of lanes is further reduced from three to two due to uphill lane restrictions around the SAKUDAIRA Smart Interchange. Since the width of the lanes also narrows, driving requires caution.

Reinforcement work was carried out at the Akai Nagareyama Tunnel to improve stability by bonding the bottom of the tunnel with concrete. At the Wabisawa Bridge, damaged concrete floor plates will be replaced with new ones to extend the bridge’s life and improve its durability.

During this period, special vehicles exceeding 3m in width will not be allowed to pass.
