Nishi Nippon Railroad announced that the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism approved its application for approval of changes to railroad passenger fares filed on September 17, 2012, as of December 24, 2012. The actual fare revision is scheduled for April 1, 2026.
The main reasons for the revision are increased capital investment in substation renewal and disaster countermeasures, and increased labor and power costs. The barrier-free fare system at railroad stations will be abolished by including it in fares, and the overall revision rate will be 12.4% (the revision rate including the barrier-free fare at railroad stations in the current fares).
The revision rate for ordinary passenger fares is 11.1%, with the first ride going from 170 yen to 180 yen. The fare for the 11-km distance between Kaizuka Station and Nishitetsu Shingu Station will increase from 320 yen to 360 yen, and the fare for the 39-km distance between Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station and Nishitetsu Kurume Station will increase from 640 yen to 720 yen.
Commuter pass fares will be revised by 15.6%. The one-month commuter pass between Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station and Nishitetsu Kurume Station will increase from 23,690 yen to 27,330 yen. Commuter pass fares will be revised by 9.0%.
