JAL Hometown Ambassadors / Supporters] JAL Hometown Ambassadors recommend the best deals on winter trips to Hokkaido!

JAL, which has bases throughout Japan, has been continuously implementing regional revitalization initiatives (currently the “JAL Furusato Project”), and in August 2020 launched the “JAL Furusato Ambassadors,” cabin crew members selected through an in-house recruitment process who move to the area to promote initiatives in their respective regions. In December of the same year, JAL appointed “JAL Hometown Cheering Troops” who are involved in regional revitalization while serving on board. The aim is to develop products and solve regional issues for hometowns and other regions with which they have connections, utilizing the knowledge they have accumulated as flight attendants.

We spoke with Mai Saito, a JAL Furusato Ambassador who tells people how to spend winter in Hokkaido.

–What can you tell us about your initiatives?

Hello everyone! I am Saito, JAL Furusato Ambassador for the Hokkaido region.

Snow has begun to fall here and there in Hokkaido, and the long-awaited full-scale winter has finally arrived. The scenery covered in pure white snow is like a different world. The lights of the towns and the nature sparkle even more than usual. Hokkaido is full of unique attractions that can only be experienced during this season.

The snowy landscape seen in the clear air is like a refreshing sensation. At night, beautiful illuminations adorn the streets of various parts of Hokkaido, inviting visitors into a fantastic world of light.

Hokkaido is also a great place to enjoy winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding, as well as gourmet food, hot springs, and saunas that will warm your body and soul. Hokkaido at this time of year is the perfect place to create winter memories.

–What is your favorite way to spend time in Hokkaido?

In this issue, we will introduce saunas to be enjoyed in Hokkaido in winter.

The sauna experience is exceptional because of Hokkaido’s harsh winters. The sensation of “toning up” is further deepened by slowly warming your body in the clear, cold air and then being enveloped by the cool air at once in the open air bath.

The open-air outdoor bathing space is surrounded by lakeside and forests, where you can relax your body and mind while enjoying the quiet snowy landscape. In particular, the Finnish sauna in the midst of nature is a luxurious wellness experience unique to Hokkaido in winter.

We invite you to enjoy a special sauna experience in Hokkaido in winter to unwind your mind and body.
