Expo EV Shuttle Buses Converted to Ramp Buses at Kansai International Airport. Total of 4 vehicles from Isuzu and BYD

Nankai Bus and Kansai Airport announced that EV buses used to transport passengers to the Expo site will be utilized as ramp buses within Kansai International Airport starting November 6.

This initiative involves the conversion of four EV buses that had been introduced as shuttle buses from JR Sakurajima Station to the Osaka/Kansai Expo site. The buses will be used as ramp buses to transport disembarked passengers to the terminal building from aircraft parked far from the terminal building at KIX (so-called “off-shore stop”).

The vehicles are three Isuzu “ERGA EVs” (each with a capacity of 68 passengers) and one BYD “K8 2.0” (with a capacity of 80 passengers).

This is the first case of EVs on ramp buses at a Japanese airport, and was made possible by Nankai Bus’s installation of chargers for EV buses at the airport.
