JR Tokai begins leasing “Optical Fiber Core Lines” for the Tokaido Shinkansen Line. Responding to the Need for Disaster-Resistant and Stable Communication Infrastructure

JR Tokai has announced that it will start leasing a part of the fiber optic cores in the fiber optic cables laid along the Tokaido Shinkansen for railroad business to outside telecommunications carriers. Applications are being accepted on “JR Tokai MARKET” from 3:00 p.m. today, April 17.

The optical fiber cores laid along the line between Tokyo Station and Shin-Osaka Station have low transmission loss (the degree to which optical signals are attenuated or degraded with distance) and are resistant to disasters. It is also characterized by low risk of line outages due to cable breakage, etc.

In response to the growing volume of data communications in Japan in recent years and in preparation for disasters, there is a growing need for a new network between the Tokyo metropolitan area and the Kansai region, where data centers are located.
