JATA supports up to 500,000 yen for students’ travel expenses in the “U.S. Travel Planning Contest”. Final judging will be held at Tourism Expo Japan in September.

On March 21, JATA (Japan Association of Travel Agents) held a regular press conference at its headquarters in Kasumigaseki to explain the “U.S.-Japan Tourism Exchange Year 2024 U.S. Travel Planning Contest” for university, junior college, and vocational students nationwide.

This project was held as an “Overseas Graduation Travel Planning Contest” until 2019. 3.75 million people from Japan will visit the U.S. in 2019, making the U.S. (including Hawaii/Guam/Saipan) the No. 1 most popular overseas travel destination. However, the number of visitors to the U.S. in 2023 is 40.5% of the 2019 level, which is slower than the average for the entire year (47.9%), and the company aims to recover the U.S. travel demand that fell due to the Corona disaster by implementing this project.

In addition to the 60th anniversary of the liberalization of overseas travel, 2024 will also mark two other milestones: the “Japan-U.S. Tourism Exchange Year” for the resumption and expansion of sister city friendship exchange.
