On February 15, JAL announced the launch of a new “JAL SMART AIRPORT” at Centrair/Oita/Kumamoto/Kagoshima airports starting in spring 2024.
JAL SMART AIRPORT is a renewal of the design and system from the check-in counter to the boarding gate in order to reduce waiting time for various procedures. Deployment has already been completed at New Chitose/Haneda/Itami/Fukuoka/Naha airports.
For the first time in Japan, the four airports have introduced baggage claim claim machines that integrate a barcode reader and a weighing scale. Baggage tags are scanned by the barcode reader, and baggage claim slips are issued, significantly reducing waiting time.
In addition, digital signage will be installed above the check-in counter, and a “Special Assistance Counter” will be set up exclusively for pregnant women and passengers with small children who require assistance.
