Signing of dollar-denominated loan agreement for the Republic of El Salvador: Contributing to easing traffic congestion and strengthening the logistics network in the Central American region by improving trunk roads | News & Media

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Loan Agreement (L/A) with the Government of the Republic of El Salvador in San Salvador on August 22, 2012, for a loan of up to US$51.37 million for the “San Miguel City Bypass Construction Project (II).

National Route 1, which passes through the city of San Miguel, the main city in eastern El Salvador, is an important logistics network in the Latin American region, connecting Mexico to Panama, but with the country’s economic development, traffic congestion has become serious. This project will contribute to the SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) Goal 9 (Create a foundation for industrial and technological innovation) by enhancing traffic and transportation capacity through the construction of a trunk road around San Miguel.
