The Beppu Ropeway will operate from 5:00 a.m. on January 1, 2024, for the first sunrise of the year. The ropeway will take passengers up the 1300-meter-high Tsurumidake Mountain to view the first sunrise of the new year in the direction of Oita City. The ropeway will start at 5:00 a.m. on the first-come, first-served basis for uphill boarding, and downhill boarding will be guided by numbered tickets and boarding passes.

The scheduled time for the first sunrise in Oita Prefecture is around 7:17 a.m. The ride takes about 10 minutes. The fare is 1,700 yen round-trip for seniors (age 70 and over), 1,800 yen round-trip for adults, and 900 yen round-trip for children.

In 2024, the first 1,000 passengers who board the train from Beppu Kogen Station will receive an invitation zodiac earth bell and a pocket warmer. The earthen bell is a lucky charm to be displayed at the entrance to bring good luck, and it bears the name of “Beppu Tsurumiyama” as a commemorative gift.
